Geographically, Maharastra is located in such an area where there is abundant rainfall in the monsoons. The Sahyadri range is in the state of Maharashtra and has a number of waterfalls in this range. It makes it a superb location for visitors to enjoy the rainy season. The Thoseghar falls in Maharashtra’s Satara district is a great picnic spot and quite popular among the locals. A short quick trip to this place is going to refresh you and let you have a break from the walls of concrete of the city.
The Thoseghar falls is a beautiful spot on the edge of the Konkan range, near a village called Thoseghar, which is just 26 km from the Satara District. Dense forest encircles the falls and the water falls from a height of 500 meters which presents a soothing view for eyes. The surrounding area is very calm which will make you feel very peaceful and it does not take long to fall in love with the area. You will also be able to hear the chirping of a lot of birds.
This is a seasonal waterfall and can be seen only during the Monsoons. The waterfall flow is although not much wide still presents a scenic view in the given background. Two or sometimes three narrow lines of water cascades down in a Gorge. There is a recently built platform to view the Waterfall apart from the picnic area. However, it may not be a good idea to be on the platform during heavy rains.
How to reach:
The Thoseghar waterfall can be reached easily via roadways. You may opt for private-public transport. It is about 141 km from Pune and 73 km from Panchgani.
When to visit:
Thoseghar waterfall is open from Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. It is to be visited during the rainy season.
