Almost everybody likes Hill stations. Especially the people who live in the city. The reason is really simple; In the city, you cannot hope to find peace or a place where you can sit quietly and observe nature. Probably that’s why most people first preference is to visit a hill station during their vacation or free time. There are numerous hill stations in India – the most popular ones are Manali, Darjeeling, Kashmir and other similar places. In this article, I would like to talk about the eastern ghats.

Remember Geography? We had studied about the eastern and western ghats of India? Well, don’t worry I am not going to bore you with the longitude and latitudes of this place. 1. Araku Valley

Before I begin to write about this Valley, I want to tell you that there are many hill stations in the Eastern Ghats. There would always be a debate over which one is the best. In my opinion, I found Araku Valley the best among them because of which I have mentioned it right at the top. Have you ever imagined yourself surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides? Your imagination can come true if you visit this valley. It is situated at a height of nearly 3000 feet so you can expect cool breezes to chill your sense. There are numerous tourist attractions at this place – Padmapuram Botanical Gardens, Chaparai Waterfalls, Araku Tribal Museum, Anathagiri Hills are the best among them. If you are going to this place, take out a little time and make sure you visit the Anathagiri Hills which is situated at a distance of about 30 kilometres from this place. Waterfalls and tea gardens are available in plenty at this hill station so don’t worry there are enough places to click good photographs. Not many people know about this but this place has a historical significance as well. During the second world war the soldiers had managed their food supplies from Padmanpuram Botanical garden; so, make sure you visit this garden.

2. Deomali

Deomali is situated in Odisha. Like I said there would always be an argument over which is the best place to visit in the Eastern Ghats. It is the most elevated mountain peak of the eastern ghats. What you can term is as nature’s beauty is the peak of this range is shaped “M” which looks really astonishing. It is one of the places which you can label it as picture perfect. It is advised that you visit this place during the winter or summer. Getting here is already a challenge and if the roads are tough then it adds to the difficulty. Avoid going to this place during the raining season; the condition of the roads is pathetic and you wouldn’t like that.

3. Daringbadi

The third place to make it to the list of hill stations of the eastern ghats is Daringbadi. This place is situated in Odisha and is located at a height of 3000 feet. It is often dubbed as the Kashmir of Odisha due to its beauty. It has many breathtaking wonders of nature. Rain forests, green valleys and the coffee gardens are a few places which you can think of visiting the next time you visit this place. It becomes really chilly during certain seasons so I would advise you to carry good winter clothes when you visit this place. If you are in Kolkata or Bhubaneshwar then it is a good weekend getaway for you.

4. Pachaimali Hills

Don’t be surprised if you have heard about this place for the first time. This place is relatively new to the common people as it has recently been deemed as a tourist spot. If you visit this place you would notice the greenery which surrounds this place and this is the reason why it has been named as “Pacha” – which means green and “Malai” which means mountains. It is located at a height of 1000 meters and has a huge diversity of fauna and flora. It is a very good place for trekking and there is a hillock situated near this place which hasn’t been explored yet. So, if you are up for an adventure then this is the place which you just cannot afford to miss out on.

5. Papi hills

Papi hills can be called a hidden gem of the eastern ghats. This place hasn’t been explored by many as a result it isn’t that popular. However, all those who have been to this place agree to the fact that it is one of the best places they have set their foot on. Reaching the place is an adventure itself. You cannot just simply rent a car or take a bus to reach this place as it isn’t connected by a road; in order to get here, you would need to take a boat ride. Rajamundhry and Bhadrachalam are the 2 places through which you can think of visiting this place; it would take you anywhere between 3-7 hours to get here. You would need to make arrangements beforehand – you can contact the travel agencies here and they would help you to get a boat and a hut here. The view of the three hills from this place would leave you in astonishment. It is really a beautiful place and should not be missed out on.

6. Garhjat Hills

Garhjat Hills is the 4th place from Odisha to make it to this list of best hill stations in Odisha. This place has a lot of historical significance as it had been captured by the Mughals and the Marathas at a point of time. There a few places which you can think of visiting from here – the most popular choice would be Malayagiri, Meghasani and Manakmacha peaks.

7. Shevaroy Hills

The 7th place to make it to the list of best hill stations in the Eastern Ghats is the Shevaroy hills. It is situated in the state of Tamil Nadu. It boasts of many elevated peaks and not only it is a place which is known for its beauty but also for because of the educational and fossil fuel deposits. Aluminium processing plants are located here as it has a huge supply of bauxite. If we are talking about iconic scenes then one can visit places where coffee is grown here. In 1845 a hill station was built by a British officer here which has now become a resort. It doesn’t draw much tourist attraction as it doesn’t have many places to visit here but if you are looking for a simple and a quiet place then you should certainly visit Shevaroy Hills.

8. Kalrayan Hills

The last place that I would like to mention in this list is the Kalrayan Hills situated in Tamil Nadu. The hills here are located at a height of 2500 – 3000 feet. There are many famous tourist attractions at this place like Megam Falls, Gomukhi Dam and Periyar falls. This place is really popular among the trekkers, so if you are a person who is into trekking or like taking up adventure then you should not miss out on Kalrayan Hills. The climate is pleasant throughout the 12 months so you can visit here any time of the year. Though this place has limited options it still manages to calm your senses down and give you a good time.

Eastern ghats are really beautiful. It is the perfect place for all those who love exploring new places. Unlike the popular tourist destinations in India, they are not crowded and they manage to give you a good time. So, these are the 8 Best Hill Stations of the Eastern Ghats.
