About the place

This place is perfect for adventurists, enthusiasts and explorers. In fact, if you are up for an adventure then Meghalaya is the best place that you could think of. India has many mysterious and majestic caves and you would be surprised to know that out of the 10 deepest caves in India, 9 of them are situated in Meghalaya. The place is not only famous for caves; waterfalls, lakes and hills are available here in huge numbers. If you have been looking for a place to explore then you cannot think of a better place than this.

How to reach the place

Meghalaya is well connected by air, rail and road. However, if you are coming here to explore the caves you would need to rent a car when you reach here. You can think of trekking to get to a few places but there are certain places for which you would be needing a vehicle.

Best time to visit

Honestly, visiting Meghalaya to see the caves here is itself an adventure so try not to visit it during the monsoon season because it would increase the difficulty of your journey. The region receives immense rainfall which would easily reach your waist level, so avoid these uncomfortable situations and visit it during the summer. During summer, the temperature is moderate and you can easily go on such kind of adventures.

Best caves to visit

As I mentioned that there are more than 10 caves in the region and visiting all of them may not be possible for you. I am listing down the top 3 which you may consider visiting when you come to this place.

Mawsmai Cave

The first cave that I would like to talk about is the most popular tourist attraction in Meghalaya that is Mawswami Cave. This case is 150 metres long but only a certain portion of this cave is open to the common public. Lighting arrangements have been made inside the cave which helps a visitor to look around and witness the beauty of this natural cave. Most of the portions of this cave are still unexplored so what is there inside still remains a mystery.

Krem Kotsati

What if I tell you about a cave for which you would need to swim in order to enter it? Sounds exciting? This is the kind of experience which this cave has to offer. It is the 2nd longest cave in India and has more than 20 entrances. This cave is more than 20 kilometres long and is one of the most exciting places to visit in Meghalaya.

Siju Cave

The entire cave is filled with water and breeds flora and fauna in huge numbers. You can expect to see different kind of insects like Isopoda, Oplionida, Schizomida and Decapoda. If you ever had the wish to see a bat then your wish could come true at this place. It is the third longest cave in India and is a major crowd puller.\

As I said in the beginning, Meghalaya is a popular attraction but visiting the caves here is not everybody’s cup of tea. If you think you have what it takes to swim across places to see such magical wonders of nature then don’t miss out on this place. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and leave for Meghalaya right now!
