Udaipur has been a staple among the top most destinations of India and Asia. It is also home to exotic, lavish palaces that have been converted into hotels and resorts. You can take a boat ride on Lake Pichola and enjoy a pleasant summer evening. Another amazing city is Jodhpur. These are very common and often visited places so if you are interested in something offbeat, try visiting Mandawa. Known for its havelis and forts, it is situated in the Jhunjhunu district. The city was developed around the Mandawa Fort. Since it is in a desert, the city faces extreme weather conditions. Summers can reach almost 45 degrees and winters are cool and chilly with temperatures of about 12 degrees. The best time to visit is between November and late February.

Mandawa is accessible by road, train and air from the major cities. If you take a flight to Jaipur you can take a cab or bus from Jaipur airport to Mandawa. The city was a hamlet in the early centuries with powerful and wealthy families living there. They built beautiful, colorful palaces and havelis decorated with artworks and murals. These havelis remain popular even today as they are strong and sturdy. The Mandawa Fort is an amazing piece of ancient architecture. Arches, frescoes and walls are painted with murals of Gods and local myths. A towering gateway stands tall with paintings of Lord Krishna leading a herd of cows. It has now been converted into a hotel that tourists can stay in. There are many havelis in and around Mandawa. It has a reputation for being the art gallery of the state because of the many pieces of artworks on the walls of the palaces and havelis. For example, the Jhunjhunwala Haveli has a breathtaking room painted in gold leaf long before the style became popular. The city is also a popular destination for Bollywood and several movies have shot here due to the many havelis and mansions.
