Going to Uttarakhand? You Can’t Afford To Miss Out On Mori Village!

Whenever we talk about vacations in India, for some reason we always end up taking up names like Manali, Kashmir, Darjeeling, Kanyakumari, Rajasthan and similar places. Vacations are taken to get some inner peace and the places which come to our minds have been so commercialized that forget about getting peace we end up getting irritated due to overcrowding. One particular place we generally miss out on is the state of Uttarakhand. I know you must be thinking about places like Mussoorie, Nainital, Haridwar or Rishikesh. But in this article, I am not going to talk about any of these places. Rather, I would be telling you about a village in this state which you can visit to get the relaxation you have been looking for. The name of the village is Mori. Let me take you through Mori and why you should visit it!

1. Background of the place

First and foremost please don’t be judgmental when you hear the term village. Mori Village boasts of a tremendous culture and history. If you are into Hindu mythology then this is the perfect place for you to be because the locals here claim that the Pandavas and Kauravas are their ancestors. Mori Village is situated at a height of 3,700 feet, so it’s natural that it would be chilly up there. Majestic views, green fields and fresh air that’s what Mori has in stores for you. It is a part of the Tons valley and is deemed to be a perfect place for all those who are looking for a peaceful vacation. Now just because it is a village, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have activities or places of sightseeing. It boasts of having the tallest pine forest in Asia apart from beauty and fun activities.

2. How to reach this place?

The best part about visiting this place is that it is well connected by air, train and roads. Generally, whenever we talk about a village our major and genuine concern is how are we going to reach the place. However, you won’t face any problems while reaching Mori. If you are planning to come by flying then the nearest airport would be the Dehradun Airport which is located at a distance of 186 kilometres from the airport. From the airport, you can rent a cab and you wouldn’t face any issues on the road. If you are planning to travel by train then the nearest railway station would be again Dehradun. From the station, it is a 175-kilometre road trip. Cabs are available in plenty and they would drop you at this place at a very reasonable rate. Mori village is well connected by roads; you can opt for the bus services. Public and private buses make daily trips to this place.

3. Best time to visit the village

Mori is one of the few places in India which manages to maintain its beauty throughout the year. However, different seasons have different advantages. If you are looking to trek in this region then you should visit this place during the summer. However, if you are looking to river raft then monsoon would be the perfect season for you. I would suggest that avoid coming here during winters because there is a high probability of snowfall which would block most of your activities and sightseeing.

4. Best places to visit

a) Duryodhana Temple

The first place which comes to my mind when I am talking about the best places in Mori Village is the Duryodhana Temple. The temple has been dedicated to Kauravas and has been built by the hard efforts of the Saur Village. The word ‘Tamas’ means sorrow; it is believed that when Kauravas lost the battle the natives had shed a lot of tears and nearby the temple there is Tamas River. People believe that the river has got its name because of the loss the Kauravas suffered. There are many temples dedicated to Kauravas in places like Datmircan, Gangar and Osla.

b) Netwar

If you are visiting Mori Village then one thing is for sure that you would get a great hang of Indian Mythology. It is said that Netwar is the only place where Duryodhana was worshipped. The village is devoted to the son of Kunti an Surya, Karna who was the king of Shalya. When you visit this place, you would see the Tons River and the stream of Rupin Gad – if you notice it closely then you would see the meeting point of the two. The scene looks amazing and it is really a good place for photography.

c) Lunagad Creek

The third place in Mori Village which you shouldn’t miss out on is Lunagad Creek. You can see this creek from the Tons Valley; this later turns into an amazing waterfall. When you visit this place, you would see many tribal homes, pine forests and some amazing rare flowers. The colour of the flowers is so intriguing that it would be like a photograph in your brain which you won’t be able to forget.

d) Icchaari Dam

Ichhari Dam is one of the most beautiful places in Mori Village. It is one of the few places which can be described as picture perfect. Legend says that this dam emerged from the tear droplets of Suparnakha (A demoness). As soon as you look at the Dam it would have your attention! Yes, it is that beautiful.

5. Activities which can be undertaken at Mori Village

a) River Rafting

River rafting is one of the most popular activities which can be done at Mori Village. If you want to go for it then I would suggest you visit the village during or post monsoon.

b) Trekking

If you are looking for a place which is good for trekking then Mori Village is the best place which you can think of. Imagine going through a trek where you could see the snow covered Himalayan peaks and waterfalls. Doesn’t it excite you? The most famous trek here would be the Rupin pass which joins Sangla Valley and Uttarakhand.
Apart from these fishing is another activity which you can think of. Imagine grilling your own caught fish beside a valley. These are a few things which you could never do in the city.

As I said in the beginning that you are looking for a place where you want to get peace and relaxation then Mori Village is the perfect place for you. Not only does it provide you peace but it also offers activities which ensure that your vacation doesn’t get boring. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and leave for Mori Village right now!
