Darjeeling – The Queen Of Hill Stations

In the midst of lush greenery, breathtaking sights of the mountains, and the spectacular panoramic views of the overall surroundings- Darjeeling is undoubtedly the Queen of Hill Stations. The ageless pride of Bengal, so as of India, Darjeeling is also known as the crown of the State of West Bengal for being the northernmost district.

The hill station houses the spectacular peaks at the lower Himalayas, known as the Mahabharata Range. The magnificent view of the Kanchenjunga steals all your attention during traveling in the historical Darjeeling.

Top Attractions of Darjeeling

Chowrasta or the Darjeeling Mall

This place is perhaps the greatest attractions for the first-timers. This place is like a flat terrace where all people are meeting by the markets, riding horses, shopping and spending a wonderful time with their loved ones. The shops at the market by the mall are the shoppers’ paradise and remain open until 8-9 pm. Many hotels and restaurants are also available on the Mall Road in Darjeeling.

Tiger Hill

To witness the magical dawn of breaking day, you must visit the Tiger Hill. Jeeps/cars will take you to the site following the traverses within the tea plantations almost in the dark of night. You will find the traffic snarling so early in the morning at the Tiger Hills.

Reach the place around 4.00 am to see the enchanting day break. When the sun rises, each of the rays falling on the Kanchenjunga creates an individual color such as red, orange, yellow etc. Finally, it creates the wonderful rainbow effect on the hills resulting to the sunrise.

Rental car services and taxis are available in abundance to reach the destination.

Ride the Toy Train

Get a ticket to ride the amazing toy train in Darjeeling. In the narrow gauge of 2 feet width, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) runs between Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. Built within 1879 and 1881, the Toy Train is one of the best attractions of Darjeeling. In 1991, it was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. After Semmering Railway, Austria, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) won this title. Explore Ghum- the highest station of India, Batasia loop, Happy Valley Tea Estate etc while riding the train.

Neora Valley National Park

Established in 1986, the Neora Valley National Park covering the massive area of 88 square kilometers is one of the richest biological park conserving huge populations of the Red Panda along with other endangered species across India. Enriched with both flora and fauna, Neora valley National Park entices visitors. You can also witness plenty of flower beds of different breeds across the wonderful park.

Japanese Peace Pagoda-

Built by the Japanese Buddhist monk Nichidatsu Fuji, in 1885-1985, the Japanese Peace Pagoda is said to be one of the 30 similar structured across the globe. The beauty of the white and golden structure and sculptures inside the edifice entice travelers.

Apart from the mentioned attractions- you can hang out at the Keventer’s- the rooftop café in Darjeeling, famous for serving hot chocolate and mouthwatering delicacies. Visit Mirik, a nearby place famous for the Sumendu Lake; Kurseong and Kalimpong located allied with Darjeeling.
