1. About the place

Bhuntar is one of the few places in India which can be visited throughout the year. If you are visiting it in summer you can go for river rafting and if you are visiting it during winter then you can for the sightseeing. Just because it is not as popular as Kullu or Manali that doesn’t mean that it lacks in anything. It has numerous tourist spots and activities to keep you entertained. You can think of spending a day or 2 here and leave for Kullu which is located at a distance of just 10 kilometres.

2. How to reach this place?

Bhuntar is well connected by air, rail and road. If you are planning to come here by the mode of railways then you would need to book your ticket till Pathankot. There are many trains like Jhelum express, Himsagar and Sealdah-Jammu express which goes to this pace. If you are planning to come here via airways then you would need to book your ticket to Bhuntar Airport, this airport is connected with cities like New Delhi, Chandigarh. If you are coming by road then the best thing you can do is to take the HPSBT busses which can be found in places like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Jammu. It is located at a distance of 10 kilometres from Kullu, 200 kilometres from Shimla and 50 kilometres from Manali.

If you are visiting Bhuntar then one thing you would find in huge numbers are temples. The most popular ones are Basheswar Mahadev Temple, Jagannath Temple, Adi Brahma temple and Bijili Mahadev Temple.

a) Bijili Mahadev Temple

The first place that I would like to about in this list is the Bijili Mahadev Temple. It is located at an altitude of nearly 2000 feet and the temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. The legend about this place is that if you see a flash of light you would notice the Shivling break into several pieces. This temple has a lot of devotion, the devotees believe that their prayers might help the town get rainfall which would help to maintain the fertility of the lands.

b) Jagannath Temple

As the name suggests the temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath and is located at a distance of 3 kilometres from Bhuntar. Even if you are not religious I would suggest you go and visit this place because this place is more than just a temple. It is located at a height of 5000 feet and if you like admiring the beauty of nature then this is the perfect place for you. If you go to temples in Kullu you would come across a lot of crowd. However, this temple is really peaceful and is not at all crowded.

c) Basheshwar Mahadev Temple

The third temple which comes to my mind is the Basheshwar Mahadev Temple which is located at a distance of just 4 kilometres from the Bhuntar temple. It is the largest temple in the district of Kullu. It is said that this temple dates back to the 8th century and is famous for the stone carvings and wonderous sculptures. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, however, there are many other deities which are worshipped here. Like all the other temples in Bhuntar, this temple is also not crowded which makes you want to explore its surroundings.

d) Adi Brahma Temple

In order to visit this temple, you would need to travel to the village of Khokhan which is situated at a distance of about 5 kilometres from Bhuntar. This temple is dedicated to Brahma making it one of the few temples in India which has been dedicated to the God of creation. The temple has an idol of Brahma located in the middle of the temple and the temple itself is made of wood. There are many festivals celebrated in this temple like Bhulang Birshu, Khokhan Festival, Naagni Birshu and Mohal Festival.

e) Himalayan National Park

If you are going to Bhuntar then you cannot afford to miss out on this place. The other name of the park is Jawaharlal Nehru Great Indian National Park. If you are interested in photography and sightseeing then you cannot find a better place than this. Imagine you are in a place which is surrounded by grassland, snowcapped peaks and forests. This is the experience which this park has to offer to you. You can expect to see animals like macaques, langurs, brown bears, Himalayan musk deer and black bears. If you are an animal lover then this place is a non-negotiable for you.

This was everything you needed to know about Bhuntar. Bhuntar may not have many activities like other places in Himachal Pradesh but it offers you peace and relaxation which is difficult to find anywhere. I would advise you to stay here a day or 2 before you leave for Kullu or Manali. If you are looking for a place for adventure or activities like trekking then Bhuntar may not be the right choice for you. But if you are looking for a peaceful and less crowded destination then Bhuntar is the perfect place to spend your vacation.
