Odisha is a state which is popular for numerous things. It is one of the few states in India which boasts of rich cultural heritage, tourist spots, beaches and hill stations. Not many people know this but Odisha has many hill stations within its state. Unfortunately, some of them are a little hard to reach as a result of which it isn’t very popular. In this article, we would be talking about one such unexplored hill station situated in Odisha which is called “Daringbadi”. It is often dubbed as the Kashmir of Odisha and the heaven of Odisha. It is said there was a British officer named Daring who was in charge of the area. It is believed that Daringbadi has been named after this officer. Whenever you visit this place you would realize that this place is surrounded by coffee plantations, meadows and pine forests. The place is filled with greenery which is really beautiful to look at. If you are looking for a place to spend your summer vacations then you should definitely eye Daringbadi. It is considered to be a famous weekend getaway for the locals; though until a few years back only a certain section of people knew about this place. If you are tired because of the heat in the city you are living in then you can think of coming to this place. The place is full of hills, gardens, streams and waterfalls. It would really calm down your senses.

Daringbadi is one of the best places you can think of if you are thinking to go for a picnic or trekking. However, if you fall into the category of people who don’t like to either of these things then you could think of visiting these places.

1. Hill View Park

The best way to reach this park is to reach Cheruthoni, Hill view park is hardly 15 minutes away from this place. In order to enter this park, you would be needing passes, parking is also available so if you are coming here with your car then you wouldn’t face any problems. It is a natural garden and playing area has been built for children. It is really well maintained and public toilets and canteen have been built so that the tourists do not face any problems. It is a perfect place for relaxation so make sure you don’t miss out on this place.

2. Doluri River

If you are visiting Daringbadi then you just cannot afford to miss out on this place. It is one of the most famous tourist spots in this place. If you are looking for a place to get clicked then make sure you don’t forget your DSLR when you reach this place.

3. Butterfly Garden

As the name suggests this garden is full of butterflies. All of you are into fauna; you would really love this place. Butterflies flying all around you is something which you don’t get to witness every day.


4. Belghar Sanctuary

Have you ever imagined yourself living in a forest? Your imagination could come true at this place. There is a rest house at this place which you can think of renting. It is very rich in flora and fauna which ensures you that you have a great experience. You can think of staying in a tent or cottage here. In order to book a tent, you would have to go through Odisha’s ecotourism website while a cottage can be booked through a government official only. The cost of a tent or cottage includes the price of food and drinks. I would like to inform you this place gets incredibly chilly so make sure you carry winter clothes and blankets.

5. Kotgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

If you are thinking to visit Daringbadi then you just cannot afford to miss out on this place. Some of the animals you can think of witnessing here are a wild pig, gaur, sambar, nilgai, peafowl and barking deer. The government of Odisha has made every effort in the book to increase the animal population in this reserve. It is spread across 400 kilometres; so, the view you get from this place is simply marvellous.

3. How to visit this place?

As I said right at the start that reaching the hill stations of the eastern ghats can be a little challenging. However, Daringbadi is one particular hill station which is easily accessible. If you are planning to fly then you reach the Bhubaneshwar airport and from here you could hire a cab which would take you to your destination. It would take you about 4.5 – 6 hours depending on the traffic. If you are planning to go by train then you would need to reach Brahmapur (it is the nearest railway station); hire a cab it would take you to your destination. The distance between Brahmapur and Daringbadi is 120 kilometres and it should take you 2-3 hours. If you are looking for a road trip then you will need to go to Brahmapur and Phulbani – Buses are available from these places or if you don’t want to travel by bus then you can take a direct cab.

4. Best time to visit

The best time to visit this place is during the summer season. It really looks beautiful during the summer and it is the best getaway you can think of. However, if you are unable to reach Daringbadi during the summer you can visit it at any time of the year. It is one of the few places which remain the way they are during the entire year.

Hill stations are amazing. It is one of the only places where you can expect peace and serenity. However recently some of them have got really crowded. In the midst of such a scenario Daringbadi still remains untouched and unexplored.
