History of Udaipur, Rajasthan

Maharana Uday Singh was the founder of Udaipur. He founded this beautiful city during  1559 AD on a cue from a holy man during one of his meditation moments. With the ranges of Aravalli, dense forests and lakes around Udaipur, the city was well protected from external influence. The most famous period of Udaipur was under the reign of Maharana Pratap who was a Rajput King. He is famous for the battle of Haldighathi in 1576.

3. Beautiful Sunsets

Sunsets at this city is another really romantic sequence which adds a memory for the visitors. When the sun sets in Udaipur the view is just so beautiful, the reflections of the architectural structures fall in the lake water.

4. City Palace

One of the most famous attraction of Udaipur is the City Palace, constructed by Maharana Uday Singh II. To explore this palace one would need around 2-3 hours, the palace comprises of museums, gardens, elephant stable. Also it has a few small and big palaces within the premises which are extremely beautiful. This palace is known for its architecture and magnificence.

5. Evening entertainment shows at the Bagore-ki-Haveli

Bagore-ki-Haveli is a mansion from the 18th century mansion, it has over 100 rooms. Now it has been transformed into a museum and is very popular for hosting evening entertainment shows. Visitors can enjoy traditional dance forms of Rajasthan, music and puppet shows showcased in the event.

6. Shopping at the streets

Udaipur is very popular for its variety of handicrafts, like paintings, silver arts, marble articles etc. One can shop for these specialities of Udaipur on the street markets, these street markets are narrow lanes full of shops and restaurants on both the sides. The local people are quite friendly and colourfully dressed.

Yes, it’s true that at Udaipur the accommodation is a bit expensive when compared to the rest of Rajasthan. But don’t lose heart as there are many accommodation options available in the city, be it basic or high end you can always visit the city and choose the best as per your budget.

A large number of tourist visit Udaipur after September, this is because the climate during this season is actually very pleasant. The temperature stays at around 28 degrees Celsius during the day time and around 11 degrees Celsius during the night.

9. Shilpgram festival

If you happen to visit Udaipur in December, then plan it towards the end of the year as you get to see the Shilpgram Festival. This festival is organised every year from 21 December to December 31. A fair is also conducted as a part of the festival known as the Shilpgram Fair or the Shilpgram Mela. This mela is a destination for hand woven clothes, embroideries, mirror works, handicrafts and much more.
