Pabbar valley in Himachal Pradesh is one of the few places in our country which is still untouched and lesser-known tourists spots. If you wish to trek, get hold of your adventurous spirit, with beautiful serene Himalayan mountains as your backdrop, then Pabbar valley is for you.

Where is it?

Pabbar valley is located in near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. From the National Highway (NH22), a path splits from Theog and goes towards this valley. The route itself presents a wonderful journey. With the Chansal Mountain Range as a guide, you will be greeted by beautiful forests of pine, deodar and oak trees. The Orchards of apple trees adds to the color plate of nature.

The valley is named after the river Pabbar which branches out and meanders through the mountains to join Yamuna afar. Nothing compares with the scenic beauty of the streams, forests, and snow-capped mountain peaks that surrounds the valley. You may even try your luck in fishing in these waters.

Trek to Chansal and trek to Kupper valley are two trekking routes you may embark into. Nearby attractions include Hatkoti Temples and palaces of Jubbal.

Best time to visit:

It is better to visit this place during springtime(March-June) as winters and monsoon may present a hindrance to the road.

Where to stay:

Lots of hotels are available in Rohru (a town near to Shimla) and Shimla itself.

How to reach:

Pabbar valley is well connected to Major cities via roadways. The nearest station is Kalka and Shimla airport is the nearest airport.


B. Abbot Mountains

Abbott Mount lies at an elevation of 7000 feet in Uttarakhand’s Champawat district. A small hamlet of small bungalows and cottages in a hilltop with breathtaking landscapes, this hill station may be your perfect place to unwind and bask into the beauty of nature. A church is also present which may enable you to explore your spiritual side amidst this paradisiacal setting.

Abbott Mount is the initiative of John Abbott Harold, an Englishman in the early twentieth century, wished to escape the tiring work-life. The bungalows in Abbott mount built in European designs and beautiful gardens surrounding them will be enough to make you fall in love in this amazing hill station. Away from the hustle-bustle of other tourists spot, Abbott Mount offers wondrous views of the mighty Himalayas. Few trails and walkways are also here in forests of pine and deodar where you may go for a leisurely stroll and simply enjoy the view and fresh air.

Best time to visit:

Spring is the best time to visit Abbott Mount as you will find numerous colorful butterflies and Himalayan birds in sight. From March till November the weather is very pleasant with temperatures ranging from 8 to 25 degrees. Monsoons present lush green trees and valleys and create and charming ambiance during rain.

You may avail taxis and cabs from Lohaghat which is just 7 km from Abbot mount.
Major cities can be reached via roadways.
Tanakpur and Kathgodam are the nearby rail stations.
Pant Nagar is the nearest airport to Abbot Mount.

Abbott Mount may not offer luxurious stay and you may even experience load shedding at times. But the Bungalows are well equipped with basic amenities. The natural beauty it presents is unmatched.
There is also a rumor that one of the rooms in old Bungalow is haunted. It is said an English doctor named Morrison used to perform weird experiments on patients and the spirits of those patients haunt that room. So if you are really into finding spooky places give Abbott Mount a shot.
