1. About the place

This place is located on the hilltop of the Shivalik range. It is said that Nahan was founded in 1621 by Raja Karam Prakash. There are many legends surrounding the name of the place. The word “Nahar” has 2 meanings. One means “Not to kill” and the other one means “Lions”. The first legend says that a long time ago there was a king who was about to take away the life of a tiger but was stopped by a saint who requested him not to murder the tiger. The other legend says that since the town has the presence of lions in huge numbers as a result of which it was named Nahan. The town is located at a distance of around 80 kilometres from Chandigarh and 250 kilometres from Delhi.

2. How to reach the place?

Nahan is well connected by road, rail and air. If you are coming here by airport then you would need to land in any of the airports located in Shimla, Dehradun or Chandigarh. From here you can hire a cab and they will drop you at this place. If you are coming here by the mode of railways then you would need to come to any one of the stations in Chandigarh, Kalka or Yamunanagar. From these stations, you can take the state bus/Volvo or hire a cab to drop you at your destination. If you are coming by road then the best possible option would be to come to Delhi and take the national highways. From Delhi, the road trip takes anywhere between 4-6 hours.

Since it is located at a perfect elevated height due to which it enjoys a pleasant climate throughout the entire year. If you come here during summer the maximum temperature you can expect is 38 degrees but don’t worry the cool winds here make it quite easy to roam around without getting exhausted. During the monsoon, this place gets a lot of rainfall so the temperature drops significantly during this time. Winters are amazing here but sometimes due to the chilly winds the temperature drops to way beyond the freezing point. It can be visited throughout the entire year but the best time would be from September – November. The weather is neither cold or hot during this time and would give you a perfect experience.
