Need a vacation? Want to do something different, cool, and unique? Why waste your time going to crowded places and seeing the same cliched vacation spots? There are so many unbelievably amazing things to do in India. If you are a cultural enthusiast, you can’t definitely miss the Malwa Utsav!
Life can get monotonous and boring for us. We get stuck in a rut and refuse to change. Everybody needs a break that freshens them up. Instead of going to typical, crowded, places or expensive hotels, you should try something new. To travel is to explore and we are here to help you explore!
India has so many amazing events and festivals to offer tourists and travelers. It is sad that many of them get lost under the hype and noise of foreign or trendy things. People pay good money to see fancy bands or rappers but are ignorant about our traditional and beautiful festivals. If you want to see true India, there is no place better than the Malwa Utsav.
We have mentioned many traditional celebrations of art and music such as the Tansen Music Festival, Khajuraho Dance Festival, and Panchmarhi Utsav. Each of these festivals is unique in its own way and holds a special part in the culture of the state and country. You don’t need to be a connoisseur or a performer to experience true joy here. Tourists, travelers, and visitors get a glimpse of real Indian art, dance, music, and rituals at the Malwa Utsav. People from all over the country and world come here to open themselves up to the celebratory spirit. You can see the city in its entire glory, all decked up, and eager to welcome visitors. There is a certain beauty in the simplicity of a small town. Once you see this, you will feel refreshed and recharged! A break from the urban rut and crowd is just what your mind and soul needs!
What makes Malwa Utsav so special? It is not just limited to art, music, and dance. The festival puts together the creme de la creme of the state and country’s artisans, chefs, cooks, and performers. Be spellbound by a classical dance performance, watch some intense jugalbandi between two musicians, eat local, delicious cuisine or buy some handicrafts if you wish. There is so much to see and do! Held annually in May, the festival lasts for 5 whole days. It is held in the royal city of Indore. Indore is famed to be Madhya Pradesh’s largest city. It started off as a city where nawabs, princes, and royals lived in the earlier centuries. Today is one of the country’s first smart cities and commercial centers. The old and the new live comfortably as you’ll find palaces and modern mansions right next to each other. The best street food in the country is reputed to be found in Indore! That should tempt you to buy a ticket right away!
Travelers can reach Indore by train, bus, or flight from all major cities of India. Tourists can find lodges, inns, and hotels catering to every budget and style all across the city. Malwa Utsav is usually celebrated on Lal Bag Palace Grounds, an open field in the city. You can catch a cab or local transport to reach here. Be warned, May is peak summer season and it can get really hot. We recommend you carry light clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen for your protection. You can stay for the 5 days of the Malwa Utsav or do a short trip of 2-3 days. Do take a city tour and view the stunning palaces in Indore. Of course, you don’t want to skip the famous 56 Dukaan, 56 shops in a line serving all kinds of cuisine for foodies and travelers.
