Khajjiar is known as mini Switzerland of India. The landscape is a visual treat for the eyes. Nestled amidst dense pine and deodar forests, it is nature at its best. This hill station is quite popular among travellers and is located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. If one is visiting Dalhousie, then Khajjiar is only about 26 km away. Once you are in Dalhousie, you can hire a taxi and get there. The nearest airport is located in Dharmasala. You can then hire a taxi or bus for the rest of the journey. Likewise, the nearest station is Pathankot.

The Khajjiar lake is located in Khajjiar. The best time to visit this spectacular place is from February to April. Travellers who have been to this place describe it as a shot from a Bollywood movie in Switzerland.  The lake itself is located at a height of 1920 m above sea level. The beauty of this lake cannot be described in words alone. It is known to be one of the natural lakes and was supposedly discovered during the period of Mahabharata.

If you believe in snakes and their powers, then there is an interesting story behind this lake. This lake is known to be a natural phenomenon. Some years ago the water was cleared to make a cricket ground. Before the work could properly begin, a snake landed up from the lake. Since then it is not considered as a lake but a temple of naag devata. There is aKhajji Nag temple which has the local which has the idols of the local devi and devata. It is interesting and worth visiting this 800 years old temple that is predominantly made of wood.

You can go for boating in this lake and enjoy the cool air and the scenic beauty. Zorbing is another adventurous activity one can indulge in Khajjiar. It is simple all you have to do is roll down a hill inside a big transparent sphere. Sounds exciting n thrilling. It is of course done under the guidance of instructors. There is paragliding activity for those who want to fly like a bird.  The activity is very popular among adventure lovers. It is conducted at a height of 7000 feet. Remember the famous movie starring Manisha Koirala, 1942 a love story was shot here.

The beauty of Khajjiaar makes it a must visit spot. It is a perfect getaway for people who are busy throughout the day. Apart from the scenic beauty, one can also enjoy adventure sport.
