History of the Keibul Lamjao National Park

The Loktak Lake is a protected lake. It was declared as a lake in the year 1953. It was done mainly to protect the brow-antlered deer. The primary habitat of this unique and endangered species of deer is banned from major tourist visits and hunting. In the year 1966, this national park was declared as a sanctuary and on a decade later it received world’s prestige as the Manipur floating National Park.

Wildlife found in the Keibul Lamjao National Park

You can encounter some rare animals in this national park. The Keibul Lamjao National Park situated at the Bishnupur District sports some endangered species of animals that cannot be found in any other national parks of India. This particular form of deer is also known as the dancing bear of the Manipur floating National Park. It is so because it can negotiate the bends with grace and elegance as it is dancing in its way.

You can witness other species of deer apart from the brow-antlered deer. This includes hog deer and other common forms of deer. You can also observe a large variety of musk deer in the Manipur floating National Park located in the Bishnupur District. Moreover, it also includes Sambar.

Quite interestingly, the slow Loris also considered as one of the primitive primates in the hills of Assam. These winged guests are found in huge numbers in the Manipur floating National Park.
