Kanha National Park is situated in the Satpura Mountains. The name of the range in which this wildlife sanctuary is situated is also known by the name of Maikal. On the other hand, this mountain range is also known as the central Indian highlands. The Kanha National Park is also famous for the Tiger Reserve that is located within its boundaries. Another interesting fact about this park is that it is spread across two revenue districts in the form of Kalaghat and Mandala. It came to be known as a reserve forest in the year 1879. Moreover, it was revalued as a wildlife park in 1933.

The Kanha National Park spans across a vast area of 940 square kilometers. Additionally, by adding up the buffer and core zone, the present day Kanha National Park spans across a total land area of 2000 square kilometers. The four into four vehicles comprised of tourists and a naturalist are being permitted to the insides of the Kanha National Park at fixed timings. In the Kanha National Park, jeep safari is permitted for a maximum of 2 times a day. The jeep safaris take place once in the early mornings and once in the late afternoons. Moreover, before entering into the exclusive Kanha National Park, a visitor has to complete various paper works like naturalist details, vehicle details, and visitor’s details. Besides that, the authorities in the Kanha National Park always lay stress on driving the Jeep at low speeds. The main species of mammals include tigers, chital, barking deer and the list goes on and on. The most notable animal species is the tiger.
