Lavani dance form is the blend of both dances as well as the song which was originated from the Maharastra state. These dance performance can also be seen in the nearby regions like Konkan and the coastal area. “Lavani“word is the derivative of the word Lavanya which gives you the meaning as “beauty”.

Origin

Initially, the Lavani dance was created to express the moral boost to the warring crowds at the time of 18th to 19th centuries while the Maharashtra state was involved in battle and havoc. At the time of control of Peshawari Dynasty which settled in Pune, the Lavani dance was at its peak of popularity, also they got support from the ruling choice.
The performance of Lavani dance is usually done by shepherd’s otherwise Dhangars who existed in the district of Sholapur which is situated in the Maharashtra district. The usually performed dance styles of Lavani are focused in the state of Maharashtra plus it is not constrained to Dhangar municipal.

The Dance Act

The Dance is performed commonly by the women; they dance towards the beat of Dholak. Dholak is the drum like instrument found in India. That is not usual for Dholak Drum to be conveyed through further instruments which are similar to the cymbal named “The Manjeer”. Elegance and Range

The sari plays the most important role in the Lavani dance performance. The sari costume will look longer than the usual one that is worn by others; this costume is called the Nauvari that is draped around in the kashta drape. The length of the Nauvari is about 9 yards.
