Itanagar becomes the capital of the state in 1974. As this place is visited by tourists from all around the country you would notice immense diversity and a result of this it is referred to as Mini India. Itanagar is the largest city of Arunachal Pradesh and falls under the jurisdiction of Papumpare District. One thing which you would find here in huge numbers is archaeological sites which makes it rich in historical heritage. Reaching Itanagar maybe a little for you as it is not connected well by train or air. If you are planning to come here by railways then you would be facing a little challenge as the railway lines in the region is not well connected. The nearest railway station near Itanagar is Harmuti which is located at a distance of nearly 40 kilometres from the city. Coming here via airways is also a challenge because currently, the airport here is under construction. The nearest airports here are Tezpur and Lilbari which is around 50 kilometres away from the city. If you can manage to come to Guwahati or Assam then you can avail the helicopter facilities provided by Pawan Hans which would drop you at Naharlagun. From here, the city is just 10 kilometres away. If you are coming via roadways then the best possible option would be to take Highway 52A. Numerous buses run from Guwahati, Banderdewa and Tezpur which would drop you at your destination.

1. Ita Fort
The fort was constructed by King Mayapur of Ramachandra which belonged to Jitari Dynasty in the 14th century. Have you ever wanted to see an architectural marvel? If yes, then you cannot afford to miss out on this place. When you visit this fort, you would realize that it would have been incredibly difficult to build a fort like that in the place where it is situated in. The fort can be considered as a perfect example of the talent of the ancient architects. The fort covers an area of 45 cubic metres and it is said that more than 7 million bricks were used in the construction of this particular fort. If you go to the top of the fort you would get a magnificent view of the valley. The fort might not be very appealing to the eyes but you appreciate the fact that it was constructed in a difficult place like that it would really interest you.
2. Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary
If you are an animal lover, nature lover or a have an interest in photography then you would really appreciate this place. The view of the hills and valleys are an amazing sight to all nature enthusiasts and the sanctuary is rich in flora so you can expect to see all kind of exotic flowers and trees here. The sanctuary covers an area of over 100 square kilometres and can be defined as a picture-perfect destination. You can expect to see Himalayan black bear, antelopes, langur and porcupines here. it is home to many migratory birds and you can spot over 500 different varieties of birds.
3. Ganga Lake
In order to get to this place, you would need to travel around 10 kilometres from Itanagar. This place is one of its kind. Imagine, a lake which is surrounded by greenery and big mountains all around and you boating around in a place like this. Ganga lake has a similar thing to offer to you. This lake is also called Gyakar Sinyi and has an atmosphere which would surely calm your senses down. 4. Polo Park
Honestly, I am not a person who is into flowers that much so I didn’t really like this place. On the other hand, my friends were really interested in this place so I decided to mention this place on this list. If you are into flora then this botanical garden would surely win your heart because it has a huge collection of rare and exotic flowers which would really win your heart. Inside the park, they have kind of a mini zoo where you would get to see rabbits and guinea pigs.
5. Namdaoha national park
In order to visit this park, you would need to travel to Changland district. It is India’s national park and is located at an altitude of 4500 metres. If you are an animal or nature enthusiast then you would fall in love with the place. The park has officially been declared a Tiger Reserve and you can expect to see animals like leopard, tiger, black bear and deer in this park. You would be getting an amazing view of the Himalayas from this place; so, if you are into photography you could click some amazing pictures.
6. Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum
If you like studying about history then you would really like this place. When I went to this place, I really liked the handicrafts here, they were incredibly detailed and looking at them made me wonder how did they manage to make it in the first place. If you like antiques then you would enjoy the archaeology section here.
7. Indira Gandhi Park
The last place to make it to this list is Indira Gandhi Park. If you have been looking for a place where you want to get peace, relaxation or a little solitude then this is the perfect place for you. When you visit this place, you would come across a lot of greenery and trees which would really win your heart.
Coming to the capital of the state might be a little challenging but once you come here you would find all your efforts worth it. It is one of the places which is a perfect fit for every age group.
