Chail – The Untouched Beauty In Himachal Pradesh

I don’t think there would be a single person who doesn’t like spending their holidays at a Hill station. The reason why most travel enthusiasts like going to hill stations are because of the peaceful environment you get there which one cannot hope to find in the city. We are lucky that we live in a country like India where are there are numerous hill stations. Whenever we talk about the best hill stations one particular state comes to our mind and that state happens to be Himachal Pradesh. In this article, I would be talking about one of the hill stations of this region. The name of the hill station is Chail. Here is everything you need to know about this amazing hill station of the Himachal.

Chail – The Untouched Beauty In Himachal Pradesh

1. About the place

Chail is considered to be one of the best hill stations in India. The major reason behind its popularity is that even after years of commercialization this place has managed to maintain its raw natural beauty. The best part about this place is that whether it comes to a romantic getaway or a family vacation – Chail excels at both of them. Chail is located at a close distance from Shimla and many people ask their travel agency to extend their vacation by a day so that they can spend a day here. Maybe, the reason why Chail has managed to maintain its beauty is because of the one day stays here. Since the altitude of this place is even higher than Shimla you can expect chilly winds and low temperatures.

2. How to reach the place

Chail is well connected by road, rail and air. If you are planning to come here via railways then the nearest railway station located near Chail is Kalka. From the station, it is located at a distance of nearly 80 kilometres. From the railway station, you would come across many private and state-owned buses; you could even rent a cab. If you are coming here via airways then you would need to book your ticket to the airport of Shimla. From the airport, it is located at a distance of around 50 kilometres. If you are planning to come via road then don’t bother driving because of 2 reasons. The first being it would lead to tremendous exhaustion and the second being the mountain drivers would any day do a better job. Moreover, the roads are very tricky so don’t take the risk of driving.

3. Best time to visit

Chail is one of the few hill stations which has a moderate tourist attraction throughout the year. I would suggest you come here during the summer when the place remains cool and dry. If you are coming here during the monsoon then you can expect a lot of showers. If you are a solo traveller then you might like it during the monsoon but if you are with your friends or family then it might be a little irritating. If you are coming here with your loved one then the best time to visit it would be during the autumn.

4. Best places to visit

There are numerous places which you can visit in Chail. However, since most of the tourists plan a day’s stay here so visiting all of them may not be possible. I would try to narrow it down to the top 5.

1. Chail Palace

Are you a person who loves history? Have you ever wanted to feel how life would be if the British never left India? If yes, then you cannot afford to miss out on this place. This place was constructed in the year 1891 making it more than 100 years old. It is the most popular hotel in the region and has a huge variety of rooms and suites. If you walk near the palace you would be coming across pavements and buildings which would remind you of the old heritage of India. Even if you don’t plan on staying at this place make sure that you at least visit it and roam around the 75-acre palace. The authorities charge you a very nominal fee for entering the property.

2. Chail Sanctuary

If you are an animal lover then you would love the state of Himachal Pradesh. Chail Sanctuary is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state covering more than 100 square kilometres. The place is covered with oak forests and it looks incredibly beautiful. You can expect to see Barking deer, Sambar and Gorals in huge numbers at this sanctuary. Since this place has endangered species of animals and produces rare trees and plants it has been declared a protected site.

3. Kali Ka Tibba

The most popular attraction here is the Kali Temple which is located near the Shivalik ranges and Choor Chandi. If you have been looking for a place to spend a romantic evening with your loved one then you won’t get a better place than this. On the hilltop, there is a sunset point and nearby a beautiful temple which is truly a sight to behold. I remember there was a tea shop near this place and I still cannot forget the taste of the beverage they served. If you have been looking for a place to trek then this might be the perfect spot for you.

4. School Play Ground

We Indians are crazy fans for Cricket. Now Imagine a cricket ground which is located at an altitude of 7500 feet above mean sea level. This place was the summer capital of Bhupinder Singh who was a Maharaj and a cricket lover. It is the highest cricket ground in the entire world and is maintained by the army. I know you would feel like playing here but unfortunately, that cannot happen. You can take a walk around the ground but nobody is permitted to enter the ground.

5. Sadhupal Lake

The final place that I would like to talk about is Sadhupal Lake. The reason why I have mentioned this lake is because of the experience which you would get nowhere else in India. Imagine tables been set up in a running lake and you need to sit on these tables which your bare foot touching the cold water. This is the experience Sadhupal lake has to offer to you. If you are going to this place make sure you try their Maggi and bread-omelette trust me it would make you feel like you are living in paradise.

If you are going to Shimla or Manali make sure you ask your travel agency to add Chail to your travelogue. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this place. Stay here for a day and you would get the peace and relaxation you have been looking throughout your entire life. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and leave for Sadhupal Lake right now!
