Triund trek provides a flee into the solemn Himalayas,  far from the hustle and bustle of city life. Triund lies in the laps of Dhauladhar mountains and provides the amazing view of this mountain on one side and of the Kangra Valley from the other side. Triund is considered as a popular trekking spot. Every year a lot of tourists are attracted to Triund from India as well as from the rest of the world. The trek to Triund can be called a restful trek because it can be easily completed by all the age groups people. It is very short and a simple trek.

The Triund trek can be done either from Dharamkot or from Mcleodganj. This trek involves refreshing walks through the mixed forest of Rhododendron, deodar, and oak. The trek to Triund from Mcleodganj is fairly 6 kms. The first five kms trek is a fairly easy and involves inclined walk but the last 1 km involves a bit of vertical climb which is known as 22 curves that will take you to Triund. There are small chai shops that also provide some snacks during the hike. The evening sky provides a perfect site for camping at night in Triund. The Tibetan culture is enjoyed by the tourist from all over the world at the Mcleodganj town. Trek to Triund is the breathtaking and exciting trek.


HOW TO REACH

Galu is the starting point of the trek to Triund. Galu can be reached either by hiring a taxi from Mcleodganj to Galu or the trek can be started from the Mcleodganj itself. The trek can also be done from Bhagsu Nag. The trek from Galu involves beautiful mixed forest of Rhododendrons, deodar, and oak. If the people cannot hike all the way then they can hire a pony or a horse and enjoy the ride during trekking.

BEST TIME FOR THE TRIUND TREK


The summer months that is March – May and the winter months that is September – December is considered as the best time for trekking. During the summer months, the trekkers can come here to get away from the extreme heat of the cities. The winter months have pretty chill and pleasant weather which can be enjoyed by them. During the rainy months that is June and July, trekking is possible but there is heavy rainfall. Though trekking is difficult during the month of January to March still it is very pretty because of the snowfall which is found all over the way.

ACCOMMODATION AND EATING FACILITIES

Triund is a popular picnic spot and camp site. Accommodation facility is provided by the forest department and government guest houses. Cheap accommodation is available along with food and water at some premium price. Also, camping can be done by renting sleeping bags or tents from Mcleodganj. The camping provides a beautiful sight of the sunrise and sunset to be watched out. This area also provides with a variety of Tibetan cuisines like Bakleb, Tingmo, Thukpa, momos and lemon ginger honey tea. Some mouth watering cuisine like pancakes, chocolate mousse, cakes and lemon tarts are also available here. Some popular restaurants are also available at Mcleodganj which provides the best cuisine to the trekker.

SOME TIPS

  1. Need to carry warm woolen clothes irrespective of the month you are trekking.
  2. Carry your own equipment and trekking gear.
  3. Carry your usual medicines and a medical aid kit.
  4. A comfortable pair of trekking shoes.
  5. Carry your own camera and spare batteries along with it.
  6. Carry your own raincoat and waterproof carry bags.
  7. Hire a well trained and informed guide for a smooth and clear trekking.

A PLANNED JOURNEY

On the trek to Triund from Mcleodganj, first, you need to reach Dharamshala and then check into a hotel and rest there for a while. You can explore the beautiful town by visiting Norbulingka and H.H Dalai Lama temple. The next day you can start your trekking.

The next day has your breakfast and then leave for Bhagsu Nag, the starting point of the trek. The steep trek start through the beautiful mixed forest of oak, deodar, and rhododendron. On the way to Triund, you can hike and have your lunch. This trek will take you to the first destination. The trek involves mesmerizing surroundings along with the amazing view of the Kangra Valley and the peaks of Dhauladhar Mountain. Camping can be done here during the night along with bonfire followed by warm dinner.

You can continue your trek from Triund to Laka Glacier. This glacier is filled with snow. During the arrival of monsoon months, the snow begins to melt and it fully disappears during the monsoon months. The trekkers can stay here and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of nature. After enjoying the natural beauty, the trekkers can head back to Triund and rest there during the night.

From Triund you can return back to Bhagsu Nag but this time you can take a different route from which you came from. The steep trek descends via Laheta Village that will lead to the Bhagsu Nag. Again you can hike in a hotel and enjoy your destination.

Trekking to Triund provides an amazing view which can be captured for a lifetime memory. This trek is relatively easy than any other trekking destination and can be done even by unseasoned trekker. This trek can be completed within 4 hours. One can also trek beyond Triund which provides some more adventurous sight like the Lake Kareri, Indrahar pass, Kuarsi pass, Minkiani pass. You can also trek to the rock cut cave that is Lahesh Cave from Triund. You can also watch the Bhagsu Waterfall on your way back. You can also visit Mcleodganj, Tea Garden, Baglamukhi, Kaleshwar, Bajreshwari, and Namgyal Monastery in Dharamshala.

Triund also provides a lot of shopping options like metal prayers wheel, prayer thangkas, bronze statues and Tibetan artifacts. Also, you can shop some interesting items like Tibetan dresses, waistcoats, carpets etc from Mcleodganj.
